“I saw the video of him being dropped off, and when I saw his face, I was like — that’s my dog.”
A Siberian Husky was filmed being abandoned on the side of the road in Horizon City, Texas — unleashed and left behind as the vehicle drove away. He chased the car. The video spread, local rescue groups coordinated to get him to safety, and authorities opened a cruelty investigation.
A family who saw the footage said they knew instantly he was theirs. They fostered him through the investigation with plans to formally adopt, and bought him toys, a bed, a pool, and everything a dog could want. They named him Nanook. As they put it, he was doing them the act of kindness — completing their family — more than they were doing for him.
Abandonment is animal cruelty, and it happens far more often than any one viral video suggests. This is the ending we work toward every single day: the lost dog who isn’t lost anymore.
