Our mission

“To rescue abandoned, abused, neglected, and unwanted huskies. Rehabilitate and find qualified loving homes for them throughout Louisiana and beyond. To educate the community about responsible pet ownership and the special qualities, needs and traits of the Siberian Husky breed.”

Our history

Our founder, Tim Allen Hand, established Louisiana Husky Rescue — “LaHR” — in June of 2019 to answer a growing problem: Siberian Huskies being euthanized under an uncontrollable wave of surrenders, strays, abandonment, and neglect. Since then, 312 huskies have come through the rescue, and 288 have gone home.

What we do

• Foster care — a statewide (and beyond) network of foster homes rehabilitates every rescue in a real household, not a kennel.
• Adoption — once rehabilitated, our rescues are matched carefully with families built for the breed.
• Education — breed education for the community, because most surrendered huskies are surrendered by people who didn’t know what they signed up for.
• Husky socials — park gatherings across the state where families can meet the breed in person, ask questions, and watch huskies be huskies.

Our leadership

Tim Allen Hand — Founder / CEO
His love for animals became a mission after adopting his first husky, Grace, in 2011 from Texas Husky Rescue — and noticing nobody was doing the same for the breed in Louisiana.

Janice Tran — VP / Director of Operations
Manages and oversees daily operations. Her corporate management experience keeps day-to-day objectives and long-term goals on track.

Val Chauvin — Foster Director
Manages daily communication with fosters statewide, making sure rescues are properly cared for and foster families get training and support. Her active lifestyle fits the breed 100%.
